Gate Installation & Repair Brooklyn
A fence is only as good as its gate. The gate is the part you touch every day, the part that takes the abuse, and the part that fails first when it is built wrong. We install new gates — walk gates, driveway gates, and automated openers — and we repair the sagging, dragging, rusted gates that other installers left behind.
Walk Gates, Driveway Gates & Openers
Walk gates are the everyday workhorses: 3–4 feet wide, matched to your fence material, hung on hinges rated for twice the gate's weight. Driveway gates are a different engineering problem — 10–16 feet of span needs a serious frame, a cantilever or track system for sliders, and posts that will not twist under the load. We build swing and slide driveway gates in wrought iron, steel, cedar, and vinyl, with automation options including keypads, remotes, and intercom integration.
For pool enclosures, gates must be self-closing and self-latching with the latch out of children's reach — code requires it, and we build every pool gate to that standard without being asked. For commercial sites, we install heavy-duty slide gates with access control that stand up to daily truck traffic.
Gate Repair: Sagging, Dragging & Rusted
Most gate problems come from the same root causes: undersized hinges, posts that were never set in concrete, or a frame that was never braced diagonally. We fix all of it — re-hanging gates on proper hinges, replacing rotted or twisted posts, straightening frames, welding cracked iron, and replacing openers and operators that have died. If your gate drags, slams, or will not latch, it is almost always fixable for a fraction of replacement cost — and we will tell you honestly when it is not.
Gate Costs in NYC
Walk gates typically add $600–$2,000 to a fence project depending on material and width. Driveway gates run $3,000–$10,000+ installed, with automation adding $1,500–$4,000 for the opener, keypad, and safety sensors. Repairs usually land between $300 and $1,500 — a re-hang and new hinges is one of the best-value fixes in all of fencing. Full ranges are in our NYC cost guide.
Built With Your Fence, or On Its Own
Gates are best planned with the fence — the posts, footings, and clearances all work together. But plenty of our gate jobs are standalone: a new iron walk gate for an existing areaway, a driveway gate added to a chain link perimeter, an opener retrofitted to a gate that has been manual for twenty years. Either way, the estimate is free and the quote is fixed in writing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my gate sag and drag on the ground?
Almost always undersized hinges, a post that is shifting, or a frame with no diagonal bracing. We diagnose the actual cause — then fix it once instead of adjusting it every six months.
Can you automate my existing driveway gate?
In most cases, yes — if the gate's frame and posts are sound. We install openers with keypads, remotes, and safety sensors, and we will tell you up front if your gate needs structural work first.
Do pool gates have special requirements?
Yes. Pool enclosure gates must be self-closing and self-latching, with latches placed out of children's reach, and the fence must meet minimum height requirements. We build every pool gate to code.
